These informational messages enumerate the active mobile offshore drilling units (MODUs) and their locations. A MODU’s job is to drill the borehole. Once the hole is drilled, the MODU moves elsewhere to drill another hole. Thus, MODUs move relatively often. These messages keep mariners apprised of MODUs currently at sea.
